We have been in touch with Mokale Koapeng (b. 1963) of South Africa for many years. His website, which lists his compositions, is:
"Mokale Koapeng,
pianist, conductor, and composer, is enjoying a fulfilling career in South
Africa, where he is a lecturer in music theory and choral composition at the
Wits School of Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University) in Johannesburg. He
has taught at and been an administrator at several community-based schools in
South Africa and has composed music for a variety of ensembles and
international festivals."

It is people like Koapeng who are taking classical music by the scruff of the neck and drag it screaming into the 21st century, thus emphatically saying that Africans - wherever they are in the world - can also compose, conduct, play and sing classical music like everyone does in Europe, if not better.
